 THE "X" PAGE ( EDITION #8.)

IT'S FRIDAY.. TIME FOR THE "X" PAGE!

GET WELL SOON PUP! WE LOVE YA KID!!

LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE.

My step father used to talk about things that he did when he was a kid, and it all seemed to be rather simple back then. And though he wasn’t a kid back in the forties and fifties, we as a people could have never dreamed up what we now are living through. Space flight, the computer age and the modern technology that we have applied to our everyday lives would have seemed little more than science fiction to us back then. Now they have become little more than an after thought, I wake up first thing in the morning and there’s a device in my kitchen that has my coffee ready and waiting for me as soon as I can get to it. No more waiting for it to Percolate, now its ready in seconds. As soon as I get my coffee, I leisurely stroll over to a device that allows me private access to the world outside of my door and beyond, and if they are online I can share communications with people anywhere in the world in a matter of seconds. In the forties and fifties if such an event were to occur, I would more than likely have a small crowd of people around me who would be watching with growing awe and amazement as each little word found its way to the monitor. We are no longer in awe and amazement at the flow of our technology, we have become addicted to it, we demand it, and inevitably have become impatient when it stalls on us. We live faster lives now than we ever have before and they continue to just get faster, and it is sometimes hard to determine if we are trying to keep pace with that technology, or if it is struggling to keep up with us. How far exactly can we push this? What is next for the world stage? What is in OUR future? Back in the day if you were to walk up to someone and try to explain to them what cell phones, or computers, or any one of two dozen other devices that we don’t even think about at our fingertips each day was, you would probably have found yourself locked up inside of a padded room. Who knows what our future holds, but can you even imagine what our lives would be like if we only had the technology of the forties and fifties at our disposal now? One can only assume that, that dial up connection you’ve been cursing for the last six months would more than likely be thought of as heaven sent.. If you even had a computer to use it on.

FROM RIPPLES TO WAVES..

I read a great post this morning Written by Silver over at the blog called “Second Bloom” it’s a post called “I can see right through you!” and if you are even over forty you need to read this post. It doesn’t matter if you are a male or a female you need to read this well written post it is very funny and at the same time the element of truth to it lends itself quickly to a slight feeling of sadness. Great post Silver.

What can I say about my good friend PolarB that hasn’t already been said? she is for all intensive purpose’s one of the bravest and strongest PEOPLE, that I know. When I first landed in the Stream back in September of 2005, PolarB was one of the first blogger’s here that I felt like I truly made friends with. Its not hard to see why either, I was immediately drawn to her mischievous wit and warm personality, The great white bear woman is a staple here in the Blogstream, and right now my dear friend is experiencing some problems with her health, more specifically her knee. This old Scratchcat would take it as a personal favor if anyone reading this, would stop by her blog “The Inner Sanctum” and perhaps offer my friend some much needed moral support. Lets let her know we care about her. I Love ya O Great white Bear woman!

Another one of my good bud’s here on the Stream is also our latest birthday boy, I speak of none other than the original Master of the Mantra himself, The Prairie Prankster!! Pranky is in Da house! If you like well written verse, with more than a little touch of realism to it, then Cap N Pranker is the guy for you! You know he was one of the first to jump into this Stream of ours and he’s still going strong! Stop by “The Paradox Of The Prankster” and say hello! You won’t be disappointed!

Ya Know what kids? Every now and again ol Scratch here just tries to go ahead and say what he thinks needs to be said and if people don’t agree with that, then at least I tried, Right? So onto bidness. Is anyone else reading Icemelts latest effort over at our favorite Rag “The New Residencia?” okay. That was probably a dumb question, as we all know everyone is reading about the Amazing Leo, but ol Ice, man, Ya gotta admit the boy has some stones! He ’s got us all wondering what’s going on with this whole lost twelve thingy! And there is much speculation involved in the direction that this story will take. (Not that I would ever speculate.) stay tuned he say’s Sunday.. Hopefully..

NEW BLOG SHOUTOUT'S!

In the brief history of this “X” page we have our first ever double dipper! The new blogger shoutout’s are in and we have three to speak of , the first goes out to the afore mentioned blog “Second Bloom” by Silver, she has got a great blog and its going on my list. The second is a blog called “Gypsy’s Walk On The Weird Side.” by Gypsy. Its another killer blog and has some posts of interest. (At least to me.) and the third new Blog in the trilogy is called “The Desert Rat News.” by Desert Rat, this blog seems to have a lot to say and I for one will be keeping an eye on it.. Well Kids I’m outta here
For now, see you around the Stream little one’s!!

 Bad Dreams.

I don’t know why, but Today at work as I was warming up the casting machines this morning, something made me think of an old friend of mine that I haven’t seen since the early eighties his name was Benny. I wasn’t too sure what to make of it so I thought that I would like to write a post about him. I met Benny while I was working in the waterbed factory up in Mound House right after my brother’s first stroke landed him in the hospital, he was one of two cousins that got a job there right before I did. Benny’s cousin’s name was Harold, Benny was older by about fifteen years. One afternoon on my weekend he showed up at my door asking me for a favor I told him that if I could help I certainly would, he said that his roommate’s where he’d been staying where partying the whole weekend and he wanted to stay sober because he had to work, so he needed a place where he could get some sleep. I offered up my sofa and he gladly accepted. He stayed for two nights and during that time I learned something rather odd about Benny. On Monday at work I cornered his cousin Harold and said that I needed to speak with him, we sat in the break room before shift and I told him that I thought Benny was haunted. He asked me what exactly I meant by “Haunted”. Each of the two nights that Benny slept on my sofa I could hear him crying softly in his sleep, I thought I was hearing things but when I got up to check he was lying there sobbing. So I got it out of Harold that Benny was in Viet Nam and he had some very bad memories of it and he was more than likely just having bad dreams. Now, I’ve known a few vets, and there were a few that talked about their experiences over there openly, and there were a few that said that they just couldn’t talk about it period. Some it got to, some it didn’t, I knew that Benny was an older guy but I never would have guessed that he was a Viet Nam vet. I never asked him to talk about it or anything and he never offered to tell tales, but he did confirm what Harold had told me in the break room about him having some bad dreams, I remember him to be a soft spoken man that always went out of his way to help his co-workers and friends and family, and he never seemed to have a cross word to say about even some of the worst people that were working there with us. I never found out in the short time that I knew him exactly how long he was over there, but it was obviously long enough to disagree with him. We worked together for almost eighteen months until I changed jobs and lost track of him, I still remember him though, and every so often he walks through my thoughts. I suppose its because for me at least, good people are hard to forget. I’m not even sure if Benny is even alive anymore but I will not speak of him in a past tense as though he isn’t. You know what? As an American citizen it sickens me how poorly our Veterans are treated by the very government that they served under. How many Vets are homeless? How many have physical and mental ailments that will never allow them to feel whole again?. How many have fallen through the cracks of an inadequate system that continues to use the size of the problem as an excuse to ignore those in need of help both mentally and physically? What happened with my friend Benny? How many others have it even worse? I guess what my question would have to be now is, of the ten or twenty times in the past twenty two years that Benny has been in my thoughts, I can only wonder how many times he’s been in theirs.
